"What the world needs now is a solid rap-rock project. At least that's what the Black Keys are thinking. Hence: Blakroc, a new hybrid endeavor spearheaded by the Ohio blues-rock duo and Damon Dash, as well as entrepreneurial MC Jim Jones, who alluded to the meeting of the minds of Twitter back in June.

Mos Def returns on "Ain't Nothing Like You (Hoochie Coo)", acting primarily as the vocal hook, answered by a simple "La la la" melody from Auerbach's voice. Jim Jones, then, gets the verses to rap over, Mos Def getting to give us a number of great variations in his chorus, and Auerbach left to actually perform one of the guitar tracks that.

It's not all rap meets blues, though, as Nicole Wray makes some more soulful contributions, and 'Ain't Nothing Like You' is a track that would fit most comfortably onto a conventional Black Keys LP if Dan was singing it and not Mos Def. 'Blakroc' doesn't overstay its welcome - it's less than 40 minutes' long - and there isn't a weak link on it.4/5(57).
